1. Conference on 'Scope of Public - Private Partnership'

  • The Department of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare in association with Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a conference on 'Scope of Public Private Partnership in Agriculture' in New Delhi on 12 July 2022. Several Industry experts highlighted the various gaps such as 'Knowledge gaps to farmers, lack of basic infrastructure, quality of Inputs etc as the major areas of concern'.
  • States pointed out issues like need for Farm gate Infrastructure for Grading, Sorting and Primary processing of produce to reduce post harvest losses, logistic services to work in sync with producers, Infrastructure to meet export requirements, Open Network to collect data directly for the farmers and Knowledge distribution.
  • The consultation was attended by more than 100 participants comprising of diverse stakeholders including state government representatives, Agritech start ups, Private sector players, FPO members, Agri industry experts and investors.

2. MoA signed between DA&FW and IRRI

  • A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare (DA&FW) and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) on cemmencement of of Phase 2 activities of IRRI South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) to sacle up the existing partnership for food and nutrition security in the South Asia Region. The agreement was signed by Shri Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, DA&FW and Dr. Jean Balie, Director General, IRRI in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • The 2nd phase of the ISARC program proposes to increase farmers' incomes, improve food and nutrition security, health and well being of small farmers through increased system productivity, reduced yield gaps, enhanced climate resilience, mechanized and digital farming, improved market linkages, modernized value chains enabling entrepreneurship for woman and youth, and capacity development.
  • Main objectives include the development, dissemination and popularization of high - yielding stress - tolerant and bio - fotified rice, supporting national and regional rice breeding programmes, improvement of nutrient use, soil health and water productivity, development of inclusive value chain based business models, development of evidence based strategies and enhancement of local capacities, knowledge and skills of all stakeholders through innovative human capital development solutions.

3. National Conference of State Agriculture and Horticulture Ministers

  • To commence the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will be organizing a two days' national conference of State Agriculture and horticulture Ministers in Bengaluru on 14th and 15th of August.
  • Various technical sessions will be conducted during the conference focusing on nine thematic areas namely; Digital Agriculture, Pradhanmantri Fasal Bima Yojna, Natural Farming, FPO, e-NAM, Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, National Food Security Mission, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and New technology by ICAR.
  • Major intervention of this conference would be launching of e-NAM Platform of Platforms by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar to promote trade and marketing of agriculture produce for getting better prices of agriculture commodities to farmers. The e-NAM will pave to create an efficient and effective 'One Nation One Market' ecosystem.

4. Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS)

  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS) by amending the import policy of major paper products from 'Free' to 'Free subject to compulsory registration under PIMS'. PIMS shall come into effect from 1st October 2022, however the online facility of registration will be available from 15th July 2022.
  • The introduction of PIMS is intended to curb imports under 'Others' category Tariff lines, dumping of paper products in the domestic market by way of under - invoicing, entry of prohibited goods by mis-declaration, re-routing goods through other countries in lieu of trade agreements.
  • This may also promote 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar' initiative under this category.

5. Brazilian Navy Delegation visits Western naval Command

  • A Brazilian Navy Delegation led by Vice Admiral Liberal Enio Zanelatto, Director of Induastrial Production and Engineering called on Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief , Western Naval Command on 11 July 2022.
  • During the two day visit, the Brazilian Delegation held extensive discussions with the Indian Navy counterparts with focus on maintenance of submarines. The Brazilian navy also operates 4 Scorpene class submarines and is exploring options for collaboration towards maintenance of the diesel electric attack submarines.

6. Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) conclave

  • Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) conclave will be launched by Shri Purshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying at New Delhi on 14th July 2022.
  • The purpose of this conclave will be to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, launch of AHIDF operational guidelines 2.0, revamped AHIDF online portal, Credit Guarantee Online Portal, inauguratioj of five major plant setups with the support of AHIDF scheme, facilitation of entrepreneurs and Networking between all stakeholders and upcoming entrepreneurs.

7. 6th National Seminars on Mines and Minerals

  • 6th National Seminar on Mines and Minerals was organized in New Delhi on 12 July 2022. Many dignitaries including Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, Union Minister of Mines, Coal And Parliamentary Affairs Shri Prahlad Joshi and Union Minster of State for Mines, Coal and Railways Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve were present in the programme.
  • Coal production was 566 million tonnes in 2013-14, which reached 777 million tonnes in 2021-22. Mining sector is the largest employment generating sector after tourism and aviation sector.

8. Hyderabad Marathon 2022, logo and t-shirt unveiled

  • The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and Hyderabad Runners Society along with IDFC First Bank and Government of Telangana launched the logo and unveiled the race t-shirt for the Hyderabad Marathon to be held on 27th and 28th August.
