1. Alex Carey started with football as the first captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants but switched to cricket when his football career didn't work out around the age of 20.

2. He was a talented cricketer from South Australia, where he played in junior levels before returning to focus on cricket.

3. After struggling as a batsman for South Australia’s team, he changed his role to wicketkeeper-batsman, which helped him improve and succeed.

4. Carey performed well in domestic cricket, taking 57 catches and making 2 stumpings in the Sheffield Shield season of 2016-17, becoming South Australia's main wicketkeeper.

5. He almost made it to the Ashes 2017-18 team but was replaced by Tim Paine. However, he soon joined Australia's ODI team and became vice-captain of the limited-overs side.

6. Carey played in the 2019 ODI World Cup and even captained the Australian team during a series against the West Indies in 2021.

7. He made his Test debut during the 2021-22 Ashes after Tim Paine resigned, and later scored his first Test century against South Africa.

8. One of his most talked-about moments was his stumping of Jonny Bairstow during the 2023 Ashes, which caused some controversy.
