The Great known Chola Emperor Raja Raja Chola I, his original name is Arulmozhi Varman and often described as Raja Raja the Great was the most powerful king in South India during his reign and is also remembered for reinstating the Chola influence and ensuring its supermacy across the Indian Ocean.

PS 1 #ponniyinselvan (Ponniyin Selvan) is a historical fiction novel which tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varman or Raja Raja #Chola 1. Chola dynasty was Tamil Empire of Southern India, on eo f the longest ruling dynasties in world history. But let the audience decide how fictional and actual it will be depicted on the cinema screen. Arulmozhi Varman ruled from 985 CE to 1014 CE (29 years), he was the most powerful ruler of South Inda during his reign and he has Supremacy across India Ocean, his extensive empire included vast regions of the Pandya country, the Chera country and northern Sri Lanka. He also acquired Lakshadweep and northern most islands of Maldives in the Indian Ocean. There were campaigns against neighbouring countries, on the eastern coast of India, he battled with the Chalukyas for the possession of Vengi.

  • The father's name of Raja Raja Chola 1 is Chola king Parantaka 11 and his mother's name is queen Vanavan Mahadevi.
  • The capital of Chola Kingdom during the reign of Raja Raja Chola 1 was Thanjavur.
  • The great Brihadisvara Temple was also built during the reign of Raja Raja Chola 1. This temple is located in Thanjavur, a district in Tamil Nadu. The temple is famous for it's famous South Indian architectural style.
  • He died in 1014 CE and was succeeded by his son Rajendra Chola 1.

Ponniyin Selvan is fictional novel in Tamil. English name of Ponniyin Selvan is The Son of Ponni. the author of this novel Kalki Krishnamurthy. This novel was first serialised weekly from 1950 to 1954 and was released in form of five part book in 1955. I tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varnam or Raja Raja Chola 1. It is one of the widely considered greatest novel ever written in Tamil Literature.
