1. Initiatives have been launched by government during two years of completion of NEP  2020

  • Various problem solving actions or Initiatives have been launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the completion of the launch of two years of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
  • The initiatives launched on 29 July 2022 include Mobile App for Public Consultation Survey for National Curriculum Framework, School Innovation Policy, National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancements (NISHTA), Vidya Amrit Portal, Skill India Partnership with IGNOU for three year degree programme and Skill Hubs under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

2. A total of 358 companies got 584 Industrial Licences in defence

  • 584 Industrial Licences have been issued to 358 companies for manufacturing of defence items as per government, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said in Lok Sabha on 29 July 2022.
  • He said that the initial validity of the industrial license granted under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act has also been increased from three to fifteen years.
  • Defence industry sector was opened up to 100 percent for Indian private sector participation in May 2001.

3. New set of Health Warnings on tobacco product packs

  • Union Health Ministry had notified a new set of specified health warnings on all tobacco product packs. The amend rule will be applicable with effect from the 1st of December this year.
  • All tobacco products manufactured or imported or packaged on or after the 1st of December 2022 will display the image with the textual health warning as - Tobacco Causes Painful Death.
  • Violation of the provision will be a punishable offence with imprisonment or fine as prescribed in the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

4. Anna University had it's 42nd Convocation ceremony

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 42nd convocation ceremony of Anna University at Chennai in Tamil Nadu on 29 July 2022.
  • Anna University was established on 4th September 1978. It is named after C. N. Annadurai, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It has 13 constituent colleges, 494 affiliated colleges spread over Tamil Nadu and three regional campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore.

5. FDI Inflow of over Six Lakh 31 Thousand crore rupees

  • India has received the highest ever Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Inflow of over six Lakh 31 Thousand crore in the last financial year as said by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in Rajya Sabha on 29 July 2022.
  • FDI Equity inflow in manufacturing sectors has also increased by 76 percent to over one lakh 58 thousand crore rupees in the last financial year as compared to 2020-21.

6. MoU signed by ANC and AAI

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Andaman Nicobar Command (ANC) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) in Port Blair on 28 July 2022 to boost inter island connectivity under Udaan Scheme.
  • Now, as per the MoU naval airfields at Shibpur (Diglipur) in North Andaman and in Campbell Bay will be utilized for civil operations. Passengers flight will be connecting Port Blair directly to Diglipur and Campbell Bay.
  • It will be a low cost 20 passenger flight operated between these islands as per the vision of the Udaan Scheme.

7. Indian Navy took delivery of the prestigious INS Vikrant

  • A maritime history was created on 28 July 2022 with the Indian Navy taking delivery of the prestigious INS Vikrant, built by the Cochin Shipyard.
  • The name of the India's first aircraft carrier was also INS Vikrant which played a vital role in the 1971 war. It was decommissioned in 1997 after 36 years of glorious service to the Navy.

8. Pranay Kumar Verma next High Commissioner to Bangladesh

  • Pranay kumar Verma has been appointed as next High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is a seasoned diplomat and and IFS Officer of 1994 batch and he is currently serving as India's Ambassador to Vietnam.
  • The next Ambassador of India to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam will be an IFS Officer of 1994 batch, Sandeep Arya. He is currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

9. International Tiger Day 29 July 2022

  • International Tiger day is observed on 29 of July every year. According to World Wildlife Fund, tiger populations are currently stable or increasing in India. The tiger reserves of India were setup in 1973 and are governed by Project tiger, which is administered by National Tiger Conservation Authority.
  • At present there are 51 tiger reserves in India and as per the latest Tiger Census of 2018-19 conducted in India, 2,967 tigers live in the country. India is home to 80 percent tigers in the world.

10. International Bullion Exchange launched in Gandhinagar

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India's first International Bullion Exchange at Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) city in Gandhinagar on 29 July 2022.
  • He also launched the NSE IFSC-SGX connect and laid the foundation stone of the headquarters of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) GIFT city.
