1. Indigenously built Y-3023 Dunagiri, Project 17A Frigate

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launched the indigenously built Y-3023 Dunagir, Project 17A Frigate built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata on 15 July 2022.
  • P 17A Friagtes are follow on class of the P17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems.
  • Seven P 17A Frigates are under various stages of construction at Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL) and GRSE.

2. IIT Madras top Institute while IISC Bengaluru top University

  • Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has emerged as the best educational Institution while Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru is the top University in India Rankings 2022 which were released by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi.
  • National Institute of Ranking Framework which comes under Ministry of Education, Government of India has released the India Ranking 2022, of various institutes.
  • IIM, Ahmedabad is the best management institute in the country followed by IIM, Bangalore and IIM, Calcutta. AIIMS, New Delhi is the best Medical College, and Savitha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Chennai is the best dental College. IIT, Madras is the best Engineering college followed by IIT, Delhi and IIT, Bombay.

3. 'Jagriti' a mascot launched for empowering consumers and generating awareness

  • The Department of Consumer Affairs has launched 'Jagriti', a mascot for empowering consumers and generating awareness towards their rights.
  • This 'Jagriti' mascot will be used to generate consumer awareness about various themes of the department. The Themes include provisions of Consumer Protection Act 2019, National Consumer Helpline toll free number 1915, decisions of the Central Consumer Protection Authority, Hallmarking, provisions of weights and measures Act and testimonials by consumers on grievance redressal.
  • The 'Jagriti' mascot shall be shown along with tagline 'Jago Grahak Jago' in all it's media campaigns.

4. 75th Independence Day: Govt. to soon launch Nationwide Campaign

  • The Central government is going to launch a nationwide campaign 'Har Ghar Tiranga' to inspire countrymen to hoist the national flag at their homes to mark the 75th Independence Day.
  • In December 2021, the Flag Code of India, 2002 was amended and the National Flag made of polyester or machine made have been allowed. The National Flag shall be rectangular in shape and it can be of any size but the ratio of the length to the width of the flag shall be 3:2. As per the Clause of the Flag Code of India, there shall be no restriction on the display of the National Flag by members of the general public, private organizations and educational institutions inconsistent with the dignity and honor of the National Flag.

5. Sri Lanka got it's interim President

  • Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has sworn as the interim President of Sri Lanka after the acceptance of resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa by the Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Mahinda, Abeywardena..
  • Wickremesinghe was appointed as the acting President by former President Rajapaksa on July 13 after he fled to Maldives due to massive protest demanding his resignation.

6. Varanasi to be first city to be granting the rotating title SCO

  • Varanasi will be the first city in Sanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) region to be granted the rotating title of 'Cultural and Tourism Capital of SCO' during India's SCO presidency from September 2022 to September 2023. India will take over as SCO chair from Uzbekistan at the Samarkand summit in September this year.
  • 'Sanghai Cooperation Organization' SCO is an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001.The SCO currently comprises eight member states (China, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan).

7. Bangladesh ranked highest in gender parity in South Asia

  • According to the World Economic Forum's latest Global Gender Gap Report 2022, Bangladesh ranked highest in South Asia in terms of Gender Parity.. It is for the eighth time in row that Bangladesh has retained its top position in South Asia.
  • Among the eight regions covered in the report, South Asia ranks the lowest, with only 62.3 percent of the gender gap closed in 2022. Bangladesh and Nepal lead regional performance with over 69 percent of their gender gaps closed.
  • Iceland, followed by Finland, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden were the top five countries in the world with the lowest gender gap, while Afghanistan was at the bottom and Pakistan second from the bottom having the highest gender gap.

8. World Athletics Championships to be Organized in Eugene, Oregon, USA

  • The World Athletics Championships has begun from Friday in Eugene, Oregon, USA. The tournament will continue till the 24th July 2022.
  • The 2022 Championships is the 18th edition and the US is hosting the most prestigious event for the first time. This 10 day grand sporting event will host 2,000 athletes representing more than 2000 Nations..
  • For India, Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra will lead the country's charge.

9. INDIA top in ISSF Shooting World Cup medal tally

  • In the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Shooting World Cup, India topped the medal tally at Changwon in South Korea.
  • India finished the tournament with eight medals including three gold, four silver and one bronze was way ahead of host Korea and Serbia in the medal tally.
