1. Construction of Taranga Hill-Ambaji-Abu Road

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the construction of Taranga Hill-Ambaji-Abu Road new rail line in Gujarat. The Total length of the new rail line will be 116.65 kms. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 2798.16 crore and will be completed by 2026-27.The project will also generate direct employment during construction for about 40 lakh mandays.
  • Ambaji is a famous important pilgrimage destination and is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in India where millions of devotees from Gujarat as well as other parts of the country and abroad every year visits here. Further the devotees visiting the Ajitnath Jain Temple at Taranga Hill would also be greatly benefited by this connectivity. The new rail line between Taranga Hill-Ambaji-Abu Road will connect these two important religious sportswith railway's mains network.

2. NMCG Approves Industrial and Sewerage Pollution Abatement Projects

  • The 43rd meeting of Executive Committee of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) was held in New Delhi on 13 July 2022. Projects pertaining to industrial and sewage pollution abatement through new technologies, afforestation, development of Kalindi Kunj ghat landscape, etc. were approved in the meeting of the Executive Committee of National Mission fro Clean Ganga.
  • A project titled 'Afforestation Programmes in States of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal 2022-23' was approved that includes plantation, maintenance and capacity building and training and awareness in these two states near the the Ganga Basin.
  • For Industrial Pollution Abatement, a pilot project for installation and commissioning of an electro chemical technology based modular effluent treatment plant has been approved. The project will treat the discharged water from some textile industries in Mathura for River Yamuna.

3. Indian scientists developed novel mechanism to inactivate Covid virus

  • Indian scientists have developed a new class of synthetic peptides that can block the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into cells and clumps the virus particle together, reducing their ability to infect the living cell.
  • Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), in collaboration with researchers from the CSIR - Institute of Microbial Technology utilized this approach to design peptides that can bind to and block the spike protein on the surface of SARS-CoV-2.
  • This novel mechanism provides an alternative to make viruses like SARS-CoV-2 inactive promising a new class of peptides as antivirals.

4. First I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) leaders summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the first I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) leaders' summit virtually on 14 July 2022 along with his Israel counterpart Yair Lapid, UAE president Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US president Joe Biden.
  • The I2U2 grouping was conceptualized during the meeting of the Foreign ministers of the four countries held on 18th October 2021.
  • I2U2 is aimed to encourage joint investments in six mutually identified areas such as water, energy, transportation, space, health and food security.

5. One lakh 75 thousand crore rupees of defence production by 2025.

  • Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said that his ministry has set a target of one lakh 75 thousand crore rupees of defence production by 2025.
  • He was addressing the officials of Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSUs) during a workshop organized by the Department of Defence Production in New Delhi on 13 July 2022. He exhorted the Non-Official Directors (NODs) of DPSUs to ensure smooth implementation of various initiatives taken by the government towards achieving 'Aatmanirbharta in Defence'.

6. Md. Mustafizur Rahman appointed as High Commissioner to India of Bangladesh

  • The Government of Bangladesh has decided to appoint Md. Mustafizur Rahman as the next High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India. He will be replacing Muhammad Imran.
  • Md. Mustafizur Rahman is currently serving as the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and the Ambassador to Switzerland.
  • Mr. Rahman is medical graduate from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka. He also got a Masters in Public International Law from University of London, UK and a Post Graduate Diploma from the International Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), France.

7. Pope Francis names three women to bishops advisory committee

  • Pope Francis has named three women, two nuns and a laywoman, to a previously all men committee that advises him in selecting the world's bishops.
  • The name of the three woman selected by Pope Francis to bishops advisory committee are Sister Rafaella Petrini, currently the Deputy Governor of the Vatican City, French nun Yvonne Reungoat and laywoman Maria Lia Zervino, head of the association of women's catholic organizations (UMOFC)

8. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajpaksa resigned

  • Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajpaksa has resigned. According to Sri Lankan newspaper reports the resignation was signed and handed over to senior government official who will hand it over to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

9. International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup

  • In Shooting, the duo of Mehuli Ghosh and Shahu Tushar Mane bagged India's second gold medal in the 10 m Air Rifle Mixed Team final at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup at Changwon in South Korea on 13 July 2022.
  • The Indian pair of Palak and Shiva Narwal bagged bronze in the 10 m Air Pistol mixed event.
  • Earlier India's Arjun Babuta had won his first gold medal in men's air rifle.
