1. Launching of Power Sectors Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Power Ministry's flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme on 30th July. He unveiled the Scheme during a programme marking the culmination of 'Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power @2047' through video conferencing.
  • The Scheme aims at improving the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of the Distribution companies (DISCOMs) and power departments with an outlay of over 3 lakh crore rupees over a period of five years from financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • The Prime Minister also dedicated and laid foundation stone of various green energy products of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). These include - Floating solar projects in Ramagundam, Telangana and Kayamkulam in Kerala, Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan, Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh and Kawas Green Hydrogen Blending with Natural Gas Project in Gujarat.
  • He also launched the national solar rooftop portal, which will enable online tracking of the process of installation of rooftop solar plants.

2. Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards presented in New Delhi

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards in New Delhi on 30 July.
  • The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund was launched two years ago, under the ambitious Atmanirbhar Bharat Package, as a dedicated Central Government scheme. It provides a medium long term credit facility for investment in the creation of post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets.

3. Direct flight between Delhi and Deoghar

  • Earlier this month on the 12th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that Deoghar will be connected with Delhi through direct flights and on 30 July Civil Aviation Ministry has flagged-off direct flights between Deoghar and Delhi.
  • Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Gen) Dr. V.K. Singh (Retd.) virtually inaugurated the direct flight by Indigo.
  • The airline will be deploying an A320 Neo, which is a 180-seater twin turbofan engine passenger aircraft. The total number of daily departures from Deoghar will be eleven.

4. Telecom Investor's Roundtable

  • India is 2nd largest telecom market with 117 crore subscribers said by Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the valedictory session of the Telecom Investor's Roundtable on 'Investment Opportunity in 5G operations and Telecom Reforms' in Mumbai on 30 July.
  • Mr. Vaishnaw informed that the government is working on a new legal framework form the telecom sector. He also expressed hope to have a new legal structure by August 2023.

5. 'Mukhyamantri Mahtari Nyay Rath' launched in Chhattisgarh

  • The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel flagged off Mukhyamantri Mahtari Nyay Rath from Raipur with the aim of spreading legal awareness among women. The Rath yatra was flagged on the occasion of Hareli Tihhar festival on 28 July 2022.
  • The Rath Yatra was flagged off with the slogan of 'Baat He Abhimaan ke, Mahiula Man Ke Samman Ke' and will go from village to village in all the districts to create mass awareness about the legal provisions and constitutional rights of women.

6. Hyderabad school introduced India's first Teaching Robot-Eagle

  • The Indus International School in Hyderabad, Telangana introduced India's first Teaching robot - Eagle. The school deployed a total of 21 teaching robots in it's branches located in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune.
  • They are capable of teaching students in 30 different languages and the robots are capable of teaching students from class five to eleven.

7. Signing of MoU between India and Malaysian bodies to promote palm oil business

  • The Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association (IVPA) and Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance palm oil industry and to promote usage of palm oil.
  • It aims to help educate Indian consumers on the nutritional and health benefits of palm oil and improve their overall understanding of applications of palm oil.
  • Malaysia is the second-largest palm oil producer in the world and is one of the top sources of India's palm oil imports, while Indonesia is the world's biggest palm oil producer.

8. Vessels leave Kolkata for a trial run to Mongla port in Bangladesh

  • A container vessel left Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata on 30 July for a trial run to Mongla port in Bangladesh as part of the implementation process for use of Chattogram and Mongla ports by transhipment from India.
  • As per said by the Chairman of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata Vineet Kumar to Doordarshan, the trial run is intended to facilitate sending of goods from Kolkata ports to the states of north east India through the Mongla and Chattogram ports of Banlgadesh.
  • A decision was taken after the 13th India-Bangladesh Joint Group of Customs (JSC) meeting held in March to conduct four more trials for the use of Mongla and Chattogram ports to connect, Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura with West Bengal through these routes.

9. Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022

  • Mirabai Chanu wins first Gold medal in women's 49 kg weightlifting category for India at Commonwealth Games 2022, Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam won silver medal in women's 55 kg weightlifting category.
  • In the Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, India open it's account securing two medals in weightlifting on day 2 of the competition.
  • Sanket Sargar clinched the silver medal in the men's 55 kg category and Gururaja Poojary gave India it's second medal, winning gold in the 61 kg final.
  • So far India has won 4 medals in CWG 2022 and all these medals came in weightlifting.
