1. 163rd Income Tax Day

  • The 163rd anniversary of Income Tax Day was observed by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and all it's field offices on 24 July 2022. The National Income Tax Day is observed on 24 July of every year.
  • The observance of the Income Tax Day served as an occasion for the Departmental Personnel to look back at the journey so far in service to the nation and to re-dedicate themselves to contributing to the growth of the nation.
  • Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Niramala Sitharaman observed that the reforms introduced by the Government in recent years have ensured a trust based tax system. She complimented the Department for having achieved the highest ever revenue collection of over 14 lakh crore in the last fiscal.

2. NIUM, Ghaziabad has been constructed

  • National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Ghaziabad is a satellite Institute of NIUM, Bengaluru and will be first of it's kind to be established in northern region of India. NIUM, Ghaziabad will help in mainstreaming and integration of Ayush healthcare services with modern medicines.
  • The foundation stone of NIUM at Ghaziabad was laid on 1st March 2019 with the aim of producing high quality professional in various streams of Unani Medicine. National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh will have 14 departments and will provide PG and Doctoral courses in various disciplines of Unani Medicine.
  • Union Minister of Ayush and Ports Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inspected this institute on 24 July and said that this institute will popularize the Ayush system and cater to the needs of Northern region of the country.

3. Biography of ISKCON founder releaed by Vice President of India

  • The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on 24 July 2022 released the biography of ISKCON founder. The name of the book of biography of the ISKCON founder is - 'Sing, Dance and Pray - the inspirational story of Srila Prabhupada' at Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas. The author of this book is Dr. Hindol Sengupta.
  • On this Occasion The Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that Indian civilisation stands for the universal values of unity, peace and social harmony and called for a 'Spiritual Renaissance' to preserve and propagate these age-old values.
  • The biography of the founder of ISKCON was launched on the 125th birth anniversary of Srila Prabhupada.

4. 16th meeting of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI)

  • Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the 16th meeting of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) in New Delhi on 23 July 2022.
  • Mr. Puri said, as the country is celebrating 75 years of Independence, the government has given a message to all States, Municiplalities, Urban Local Bodies to celebrate SVANidhi Mahotsav with the active participation of Street Vendors across the country.

5. Government amends Flag Code of India

  • The government has amended the flag code of India which allows the tricolor to be displayed in in open and on individual houses and buildings through day and night. The move comes ahead of 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.
  • The flag code of India was earlier amended on December 30, 2021, allowing the use of polyester, apart from cotton, wool, silk and khadi for making hand-spun, hand-woven and machine-made flags.

6. National Broadcasting Day observed on 23rd July

  • National Broadcasting Day was observed on Saturday 23rd July as on this day in 1927, the first ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company. On 8th June 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio. All India Radio has been serving to inform, educate and entertain the masses truly living up to it's motto - 'Bahujana Hitaya, Bahujana Sukhaya'.
  • On the occasion the Information and Broadcasting Minister Shri Anurag Thakur launched the promo's of Doordarshan's new serials - Corporate Sarpanch, Beti Desh Ki, Jai Bharati, Suro ka Eklavaya and Ye Dil Mange More. He also launched promo of Startup Champions 2.

7. Foundation stone for 8th IT/Hi-Tech Park in Bangladesh

  • The foundation stone for the 8th IT/Hi-Tech park built under the Indian Line of Credit was laid at Singra, Natore on 24 July. The foundation was laid jointly by the Bangladesh State ICT Minister Zuniad Ahmed Palak and High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami. This is the 8th park out of 12 IT/Hi-Tech parks under the Indian Line of Credit (LOC)  extended to Bangladesh.
  • Foundation stones for 8 Hi-Tech parks have been laid since April this year starting with Keraniganj in April, followed by Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Cox's Bazar and Singra in Natore.

8. WHO declares Monkeypox as global health emergency

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Monkeypox as the global health emergency on 23rd July. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said more than 16000 cases have been reported from 75 countries.
  • There are only two other such health emergencies at present - the coronavirus pandemic and the continuing effort to eradicate polio.

9. Dinesh Gunawardena became Sri Lanka's new Prime Minister

  • Dinesh Gunawardena took oath as new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on 22nd July 2022.
  • The Appointment of Gunawardena comes a day after six-time Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the country's new president.

10. Neeraj Chopra creates history

  • Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win Silver Medal in Men's Javelin Throw event at World Athletics Championships. In the competition held at Eugene in Oregon, United States, the champ held second position with the best throw of 88.13 meters.
  • Grenadian Javelin Thrower Anderson Peters won the gold medal with a throw of 90.54 meters.
  • Neeraj Chopra is the first ever Indian to win a silver medal at World Athletics Championships. He is the second Indian after former long jumper Anju Bobby George, who won a bronze medal in long jump in 2003 at Paris.
