It is also, The Office and Residence of the President of India (Presently Shri Ramnath Kovind) which sybolise/manifest India's strength, it's democratic traditions and secular character.
The architects who gave this Rashtrapati Bhavan exceptional imagination and masterfulness were Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. The H shaped building of Rashtrapati Bhavan covers and area of 5 acres on a 330 acre estate. It has 340 rooms which are spread over four floors. The total length of corridors in Rashtrapati Bhavan is 2.5 kilometres and it has the garden area of 190 acres.
The work of construction of Rashtrapati Bhavan was done complete in the year 1929. It was originally built as the residence for the Viceroy of India and it was then known as Viceroy's House. When consructed it was called the Viceroy's House. The name of Viceroy's House was changed to Government House on August 15, 1947 when India became independent. The name Viceroy's House and Government House of India was changed to Rashtrapati Bhavan during the term of president Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
The tour to the Rashtrapati bhavan is divided into three circuits:
- Circuit 1 covers the Main Building and Central Lawn of Rashtrapti Bhavan including it's premier rooms like Ashok Hall, Durbar hall, Banquet Hall, its Drawing rooms and many more.
- Circuit 2 consists of the tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex.
- Circuit 3 promises the tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan's famous gardens - The Mughal Garden, Musical Garden and Spiritual Garden
