1. Martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh

  • On 31st of July there was martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered tribute to him as well as other great revolutionaries who sacrificed themselves for the country.
  • He also spoke about event held under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in Meghalaya earlier this month where people remembered the brave warrior of Meghalaya U. Tirot Singh on his death anniversary.

2. Chabahar Day conference begins in Mumbai

  • Union Shipping Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Minister of State for Shipping Shripad Naik inaugurated the Chabahar Day conference in Mumbai on 31 July. Dignitaries from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan were present on the occasion
  • The Chabahar port is the of India's Indo-Pacific vision to connect with Eurasia with Indian Ocean Region. The port will also be part of the International North South Transport Corridor network connecting India.
  • This trade route will open new avenue for India and Eurasian Countries. As per Union Shipping Minister Iran has given special incentives to increase trade cooperation activities between India and Iran through Chabahar port.

3. The fourth edition of Indian Oman Joint Military Exercise starting tomorrow

  • Royal Army of Oman Contingent for Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH-IV arrived in India. The fourth edition of Indian Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH-IV between contingents of Indian Army and the Royal Army of Omanis scheduled to take place at the Foreign Training Node of Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan which is going to start from 1 August.
  • The previous edition of Exercise AL NAJAH-IV was organised at Muscat from 12 to 25 March 2019.

4. Direct flight between Delhi and Deoghar flagged-off

  • Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Gen) V. K. Singh (Retd.) virtually inaugurated the direct flight operated by Indigo between Delhi and Deoghar on 30 July.
  • The airline will be deploying a A320 Neo, which is 180-seater twin turbofan engine passenger aircraft. The total number of departures from Deoghar will be eleven daily.

5. International Year of Millets - 2023

  • United Nations has declared the year 2023 as International Year of Millets. Union Agriculture Minister visited the Millets Culinary Carnival in Dilli Haat which is being organised by Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
  • This carnival is organised in association with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, IHM (PUSA) and IFCA.

6. Minister's Dashboard of FAHD launched

  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Purshottam Rupala launched the Minister's dashboard for Animal Husbandry and Dairying on 29 July in New Delhi.
  • The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has launched several schemes across States/UTs to strengthen the livestock sector in India through the introduction of new technologies, breeding programs, disease control and eradication programs, establishing dairy and meat processing infrastructures, human resource development, etc.
  • The Minister's Dashboard encapsulates the following schemes:
    1. Livestock Health and Disease Control Program (LHDCP)
    2. National Livestock Mission (NLM)
    3. Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF)
    4. National Program for Dairy Development fund (NPDD)
    5. Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM)
    6. Supporting Dairy Co-operatives and Farmer Producer Organizations (SDCFPO)
    7. Dairy processing and Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF)

7. Ravi Kishan Takkar appointed as Additional Director on LIC HFL's Board

  • The Board of Directors of Life Insurance Corporation of India Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL) has approved the appointment of Ravi Kishan Takkar as an Additional Director on LIC HFL's Board. He was formerly the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UCO Bank.

8. World Day Against trafficking in Persons 2022 - 30 July

  • The United Nation's World Day Against Trafficking in persons annually observed across the world on 30th July of every year to create awareness about the state of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.
  • The theme of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2022 is 'Use and abuse of technology'.
  • The first ever World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was observed on 30th July 2014, on 18th July 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/68/192 and proclaimed the 30th July of every year as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

9. Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos dies

  • Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos died on 31 July at the age of 94.
  • Fidel Ramos was the 12th President of the Republic of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998, was driving force behind the renewed investor confidence in the country.

10. Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022

  • Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins gold medal in men's 67 kg weightlifting at CWG 2022
  • Mirabai Chanu wins first Gold medal in women's 49 kg weightlifting category for India at Commonwealth Games 2022, Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam won silver medal in women's 55 kg weightlifting category.
  • Sanket Sargar clinched the silver medal in the men's 55 kg category and Gururaja Poojary gave India it's second medal, winning gold in the 61 kg final.
  • So far India has won 6 medals in CWG 2022 and all these medals came in weightlifting.
