Draupadi Murmu : A face which can be India's new President

Draupadi Murmu

She is an Indian politician born on 20 June 1958. She is a member of the Bhartiya Janta Party and now she has been officially nominated by the BJP -led National Democratic Alliance for the 2022 Indian Presidential election. She previously served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She belongs to the state of Odisha, she is the first governor of Jharkhand to complete the five year term, and the person who belong to Scheduled Tribe of India to be nominated for the post of President of India.

Personal life of Draupadi Murmu

Born in a Santhali Tribal family in Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha on June 20, 1958. Both her father and grandfather were village heads under the Panchayati Raj system. She married to Shyam Charan Murmu.

Draupadi Murmu Career

She started out her career as a school teacher before entering into state politics. She worked as an assisstant professor at the Aurobindo Integral Education and Research, Rairangpur and as a Junior Assistant at the irrigation department of the Government of Odisha.

In 1997 Draupadi Murmu joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She also served as the national vice-president of Bhartiya Janta Party Scheduled tribes Morcha. She was the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Commerce and Transport during the coalition gevernment in Odisha of Bhartiya Janta Partya and Biju Janta Dal from March 6, 2000 to August 6, 2002 and she also was the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August, 2002 to May 16, 2004.

She is former Odisha Minister and an MLA from Rairangpur Assembly Constituency in the years 2000 and 2004. She was conferred Nilkantha Award for best MLA by Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2007.

Draupadi Murmu Career as Governorship

She was the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. She was the first female adivasi leader from Odisha to get appointed as a governor of an Indian state.

Reason of discussion for Draupadi Murmu in 2022

In June 2022, the BJP nominated Murmu as the National Democratic Alliance's candidate for President of India for the 2022 election the following month.
